Google buys Gizmo5 for Google Voice

Google confirmed its intention to acquire VoIP service Gizmo5, The network uses open standards for call management, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol. They make plans to merge the group into the Google Voice team.

The Gizmo5 is a Web-based VoIP client that lets you make phone calls over the Internet, similar to programs like Skype. The Gizmo5's engineers will be joining the Google Voice team to continue improving the Google Voice and Gizmo5 experience in order to give more services to the people who use an internet system for their communication.

The pending acquisition had been reported earlier in the week by Techcrunch but was overshadowed by the announcement of Google's third-largest acquisition to date--the US$750 million AdMob deal--on the same day.

Since the GrandCentral team joined Google in 2007, they've done incredible things with Google's technology and resources to launch and improve Google Voice. The official Google said that while current Gizmo5 users can continue to use the service, no new customers can sign up for now. Right now when they sign up for a Google Voice account, the service can only ring phones they have already got.

It's really surprised to see Gizmo5 morphing into a new version of Google Talk, with built-in support for Google Voice. Google Voice offers users a variety of services including transcribed voice mails and low-cost calling, but it does that over existing phone networks.

I hope the Google Voice will give the customer nice service, sound and video more clear, no interrupted during connection both side running, low-cost payment such others phone service Skype, Yahoo Voice, ActionVoip, etc.
